We have started to receive finances and pledges for the trip. So far Airdrie Victory has pledged over $19 000!!! We are so excited to see the pledges and the support coming in. We will keep you updated as we strive to reach our goal of a minimum donation of $25,000. To add your support please contact Airdrie Victory Church.
Departure Dates Set - March 29th 2009
We are looking at the flights to take us from Calgary to Durban – we will be doing a lot of traveling in the two weeks that we are gone. We will depart Calgary on July 19 and will land in Durban on July 21st. We will have to get lots of rest on the plane as we will have an action packed ten day before we return to Calgary. We will depart Durban on July 31st and arrive in Calgary on August 1st!
$11,000 Raised - March 15th 2009
To date we have received over $11,000 from the pledges and donations!! We are so thankful to everybody who has given and supported us so far. Later this month we will be meeting with everybody from Airdrie Victory Church who is interested going on the mission trip. We will be providing information on costs, vaccinations, passport rules and available to answer any questions that people have. For many of us this is our first trip to South Africa, so an information night will be a good opportunity to get any questions answered. We have a few experts from Durban with us, as our Senior Pastor’s family grew up in South Africa and know the area and culture inside and out.
Program Support - February 22nd 2009
New Covenant Fellowship relies on the efforts of volunteers from within their local church to ensure that the programs run smoothly. Each of these programs are funded through donations and the support from New Covenant Fellowship. As the need within the community is so great, we are proud that New Covenant Fellowship is giving unselfishly to better the lives of those around them.
Relief Programs - February 8th 2009
The Crisis Care Centre provides food and clothing for over 500 families every month. They have an annual winter drive to supply blankets and clothing to those in need, last year in 2008 they were able to give supplies valued of over 100,000 Rand = over $12,000 CAD. The Crisis Care Centre has partnered with Mount Royal HealthCare centre, feeding over 80 homeless children each month and helping to provide for the children’s basic needs. The Haven cares for 7 women and 5 children who have no place to stay – providing food and shelter. We are really excited to help with these programs and interact with the current volunteers.
Hospitality A Blessing - January 25th 2009
The members of New Covenant Fellowship have offered to let the members from Airdrie Victory stay with them in their homes while we are down there working. This is a huge cost saving opportunity for us as we now just have to pay for the flights and food while we are there. We are really excited to get to know the people from New Covenant and learn more about the city of Durban.
Goals Are Set - January 11th 2009
The planning committee has been making great progress on the plans for the trip. We all agree and believe that we will be able to bring a minimum donation of $25 000 to support the centers and programs at New Covenant Fellowship. It’s a big number but we feel that we are so blessed here in Canada that we are able to give share our abundance with those who are less fortunate.
Our Mission Begins - January 4th 2009
Welcome to our Mission Blog! We have started this site and blog as Airdrie Victory church has announced that we will be traveling to Durban South Africa on July 19th 2009 for a mission trip. For ten days we will be working with New Covenant Fellowship of Durban to help support the needs of the local community. New Covenant Fellowship currently has two centers and programs that focus on helping the less fortunate within Durban; The Crisis Care Centre and The Haven. The Crisis Care centre supplies food and clothing to the less fortunate and orphans. The Haven is a women’s shelter providing support for women and their children who have no where to go. We have a planning committee together who will be providing updates as we progress through our plans. Stay tuned for more.
